Community Led Bakery

& Sales Team

We listened to the people, and the people said, “We want jobs.”

-Sr. Katherine (Sissy) Corr, SND

The bakery area is the centerpiece of the St. Julie Haiti Project.

Workers bake bread three days a week and sellers go out into the community to sell the bread. It has been incredibly difficult to keep the business going in the face of natural disaster (earthquake in 2021), political and economic difficulty (assassination of the President and civil unrest) and hyper inflation. The cost of flour - the main ingredient in our bread - has increased 100% in the past several years.

In spite of all this, the spirit of the Haitian people is strong! The bakery continues. Workers are happy to come to their jobs and the sellers are grateful for the opportunity to have income and scholarships to help their families.
